BBC Master ROM Tester Shield

The BBC Master ROM Tester is a shield for the Arduino Mega 2560 and is used to read and verify the BBC Master 28 pin 1Mbit ROMs.

This is a device I designed as there are no other devices on the market than can read these old 28 pin 1MBit ROM chips.

The shield reads the contents of the ROM and generates CRC-32 values which is then compared against known good ROM values. This is useful for troubleshooting/verifying ROM’s if you don’t have a known good BBC Master to test against.

There is also a python script available should you need to generate a CRC hash for a ROM not listed in the Arduino code.

For sale is only the shield.

To use this device you will need to have a Arduino Meg2560 (Not included) and some experience in using Arduino IDE (Compiling and uploading sketches)

The Arduino code and python script is available to download from here.

The Arduino code has hashes for the following ROMs:

  • Viewsheet
  • MOS 3.20 / 3.50
  • DFS
  • Edit
  • Basic
  • View
  • Terminal
  • OS 1.20 / 2.00
  • ADFS
  • ARM
  • Exmon II
  • Basic Editor
  • ADT
  • Toolkit Plus

The latest Arduino code on github may contain more CRC hashes.
