27C32 to 2316 2332 Adapter

For sale is a 27C32 to 2316 / 2332 Adapter, including the 27C32 ROM.

Please read this entire description to make sure you know what you are purchasing.

I designed this as there were not many solutions available which allowed for different active HIGH/LOW CS2 lines. Most of the designs available either assume CS2 is active HIGH, or they tie CS1 to ground making it incompatible with many retro computers where with chip is used.
When Commodore produced the 2332 ROM chips for some reason they produced 2 versions. One with the CS2 pin active HIGH, and the other with CS2 active LOW.
This design caters for both, and by configuring the solder jumpers on the back of the PCB you can configure any of these options:
  • 2316 with /CE1, /CE2, CE3
  • 2332 with /CE1, /CE2
  • 2332 with /CE1, CE2
(/ indicates active LOW)
This adapter will can therefore be configured and will work in other retro computers, not only the Commodore.
This adapter only works with the 27C32 chip, and while this is now obsolete, it still available through various sites.
The adapter is easy to setup and  all the options have been tested on real hardware (Commodore VIC-20, 64, PET) and also o my custom Retro ROM Tester which is available here:

There is another version I sell of this PCB called the 23XX adapter which allows more configuration options and allows you to use different ROMs however it’s a bit more expensive due to the extra configs.
I wanted something simpler, cheaper, and easier to setup for my Commodore PET which was missing all of it’s ROMs
The 27C32 ROM Will be supplied blank, however if you want it programmed then let contact me and I can program and configure the jumpers for you.
Take note, when programming the 27C32, it needs 21V on the Vpp pin so some programmers like the newer TL866 II Plus will not work as they only supply 18V on the Vpp pin.  You can use a older TL866, or the never T48 programmer to program these chips.
The pictures show an example ROM being tested with the Retro ROM Tester – this is for illustration only.
You will receive:
1 x 27C32 ROM (Blank, unless you want it programmed)
1 x 2732 to 2316/2332 Adapter
Jumper Settings:
  • 2316 – Short JP1(2-3), JP2(1-2), JP3(1-2), JP4
  • 2332 (CS2) – JP1(1-2), JP2(2-3), JP3(1-2), JP4
  • 2332 (/CS2) – JP1(1-2), JP2(2-3), JP3(2-3)
The ROM image needs to be programmed at the start of the ROM in address 0x0000
