6309 / 6809 CPU Tester
This is a purpose-built diagnostic tester designed to verify the functionality of Motorola and Hitachi 6309 / 6809 8-bit microprocessors.
It performs a series of automated checks to confirm CPU integrity, address/data line operation, stack behaviour, and I/O functionality.
- Selectable Clock Speeds: 100 kHz, 1 MHz, or 2 MHz operation
- Automatic CPU Identification: Detects and indicates whether a 6309 or 6809 CPU is installed
- Bus Integrity Tests: Verifies all address and data lines for stuck or shorted conditions
- RAM Verification: Performs read/write tests across multiple memory locations
- Stack Integrity Tests: Exercises push and pull operations across all CPU registers to verify proper stack behaviour
- I/O Function Test: Drives eight LEDs in a “Knight Rider” sweep pattern to confirm control line activity
- Visual Status Indicators: Dedicated LEDs report CPU type, RAM test results, stack test results, and I/O activity
-
1 × 6309 / 6809 CPU Tester PCB (fully assembled and tested)
Note: The 6309/6809 CPU itself is not included in this sale.
- Insert the CPU into the ZIF socket, ensuring correct orientation (Pin 1 at top left).
- Connect a Mini USB Type B cable (not supplied) from a PC or regulated 5 V USB power source.
- Press the RESET button to initiate the test sequence.
- CPU detection routine identifies the installed processor type and illuminates the corresponding indicator LED.
-
RAM verification runs; if a RAM error is detected, LEDs D0–D3 will be lit.
-
Stack tests are performed; failures are indicated by LEDs D4–D7.
-
I/O test executes, driving LEDs in a continuous “Knight Rider” pattern to confirm correct output timing.
A demonstration video showing test output for a verified working CPU is available in the listing.
Item will be shipped with Royal Mail Tracked 48.
