Commodore Universal Dynamic PET PCB bare main board replica
This is a replica PCB of the Universal Dynamic motherboard for the Commodore PET
The PCB is a near-exact replica to the original Commodore PCB. (With a few extra fixes added)
UNIVERSAL DYNAMIC PET
ASSY. NO. 8032089
FAB NO. 8032088
ARTWORK NO. 8032086 REV A
While tracing the original Commodore PCB and comparing it to the schematics, I came across a few design errors. These have all been corrected in the PCB:
- Removed GND VIA near UD14 pin6 – not connected
- Removed VIA to the right of R40 – not connected
- Removed GND VIA above C53 – not connected
- C37 shorted on PCB. Fixed.
- 12V test point near FB26/UD6 not labelled. Now labelled TP
There are a few cosmetic issues on this PCB but these are only cosmetic and the PCB, when assembled, works 100%.
I have built this PCB and am using it in my PET 8032 and it works perfectly.
- Labels BA0 to BA10 are missing from the PCB
- C23 and C16 silkscreen polarity is incorrect.
You will only receive the bare PCB. A BOM will be supplied but you will need to source all the components and assemble yourself.
PCB Specifications:
- Colour: Green
- Base material: FR-4
- Thickness: 1.6mm
- Surface finish: HASL
- Dimensions: 403 x 256mm
Luckily all the components are still obtainable. The MOS chips, while no longer manufactured can be found on eBay or various other online sources. Commodore ROMs can be replaced with 27C256 chips and 23XX adapters. (See my other listing if you want to purchase these adapters)
While this is not a complicate project you will need to be reasonably good at soldering and be ready for lots of late nights assembling. It took me a few nights to assemble this but it’s a fun project.
The last photo is a example of what it looks like fully assembled.
